Workers and the public will pay the price for further cuts to the BBC

31 August 2021

The Government is considering another real terms cut to the BBC licence fee, according to reports in The Times today.

Commenting on these reports, Bectu National Secretary Noel McClean said:

“Bectu is seriously concerned about the impact on workers of further real terms cuts to the licence fee.

“Despite years of cuts, the pressure has increased on the BBC to continue producing high quality entertainment and informative content, and it is workers who pay the price in longer hours and increased pressure.

“The BBC is a much-loved national treasure and the public rightly expect a great deal from the institution. The government should ensure that the BBC is funded properly so it can meet this public expectation.”
