UK’s first registry for intimacy coordinators now live

9 December 2024

Bectu has launched a registry of intimacy coordinators for the film and TV industry.

The registry, the first of its kind in the UK, provides a list of intimacy coordinators (ICs) working in the screen industry in the UK and Ireland who have a certain level of experience, as detailed in this document.

The registry builds on Bectu’s guidance for shooting intimate scenes, published in 2022, which provides information for employers, departments and other practitioners that are involved in managing, casting, directing or producing scenes with intimate content.

The registry is administered, supported, and hosted by Bectu, in collaboration with the British Film Institute.

Following the development of the ‘Me Too’ movement, intimacy coordination has grown worldwide. The new registry will help productions seeking an intimacy coordinator to find the right professional for their production, and is designed to promote high safety standards and competence.

The registry is available on Bectu’s website.

Interested in joining the registry?

Application to the registry is free for Bectu members, with applications processed by Bectu’s Intimacy Coordinator Branch Registry Sub-Committee.

Non-members pay a non-refundable administration fee of £200 for each application. Non-members can join the union first to avoid paying the fee.

To apply to join the registry, intimacy coordinators can email [email protected] to request the application pack.

Head of Bectu Philippa Childs said:

“Intimacy coordination provides vital support for artists during the preparation, rehearsal and shooting of intimate action. It’s fantastic to see the practice becoming more widespread and more and more productions recognising the huge value that intimacy coordinators add on set.

“We hope the registry will help productions hire the right intimacy coordinator for the job and ensure UK productions are safe and respectful workplaces for everyone involved.”

Bectu Intimacy Coordinators Branch Chair, Tommy Ross-Williams, said:

““We’re really proud to launch the registry, which is the culmination of years of work by Bectu’s intimacy coordinators branch in consultation with industry stakeholders.

“Alongside our guidance for shooting intimacy, the registry will help standardise the practice of intimacy coordination as it continues to develop in the UK, and ensure rigour and high standards across the screen industries.”
