Mike Clancy re-elected as Prospect general secretary

2 November 2021

Mike Clancy has been re-elected to serve a further term as general secretary of Prospect.

Elected for a third term as general secretary, Mike has led the union since May 2012, helping to grow the union, ensuring the successful merger with Bectu and representing members through a turbulent political environment.

During the pandemic, Prospect and Bectu were at the frontline of protecting jobs and supporting members, from negotiating for furlough with the TUC and creation the self-employed support scheme, through to fighting to protect the creative industries and aviation industries through lockdown.

Responding to his re-election, Ele Wade, Prospect President said:

“We are delighted that Mike Clancy has been re-elected to serve as our general secretary.

“Mike’s leadership during difficult times, both economically and politically, has been vitally important to the continued success of the union and the support we have been able to offer to members.

“We know that Mike is focused on building a strong union that can deliver for members and we look forward to working with him to achieve this objective.”

Mike Clancy commented:

“It’s an enormous privilege to be re-elected to serve a third term as general secretary of this incredible trade union and I want to thank members for putting their faith in me to lead the union through the coming years.

“We face enormous challenges as we emerge from the shadow of the pandemic and navigate damage it has done to our economy and the consequences has had for the way we work and, at the same time, face up to our responsibilities to our planet.

“I have never been so convinced that workers and their trade unions need to be at the centre of these national conversations, and together we will work to shift our economic model towards one defined by voice and justice.”
