Why we’re protesting
London’s creative industries are at risk due to funding cuts announced earlier this month. The cuts are worth over £50 million and are part of the Governments’ so-called Levelling Up agenda.
As a result of the cuts, Bectu members at the Royal Opera House, National Theatre, Donmar Warehouse, Glyndebourne, the English National Opera (ENO) and Sadler’s Wells are facing the uncertainty of job losses. Bectu members at the ENO are also facing the uncertainty of moving out of London as they are no longer in the Arts Council England’s portfolio of arts funding. We must stop this.
What we’re asking for
We want the government to reverse the cuts and increase funding for the creative sector. Bectu is also calling for an urgent summit with impacted venues and the Mayor of London to discuss the consequences of the cuts.
What you can do
Join us at the protest on Tuesday 22 November outside DCMS on Parliament Street. Let’s work together to protect the arts and the jobs it creates!
