Bectu response to BBC Director General’s comments regarding BBC cuts

Head of Bectu Phillippa Childs said:

“Continuing cuts to services, programmes and channels are doing long-term damage to the BBC, some of which will be irreparable.

“Morale is already at an all-time low among employees and the continual drip feed of bad news is making it worse.

“The BBC is a central part of the creative industries ecosystem and to the UK’s ability to produce unique British content. Cuts of this magnitude, on top of previous cuts, will be hard to recover from and the whole industry will be affected.

“Charter Renewal must put the BBC’s funding on a secure, long-term footing. This is a key cultural export and an integral part of many people’s daily lives. Letting it wither on the vine is simply not an option.”
