Bectu responds to ENO’s plans for partnership with Greater Manchester
Head of Bectu Philippa Childs said:
“Bectu members and all those employed at the ENO have faced an uncertain couple of years amidst relocation plans and funding cuts. Throughout the company’s planned move to Greater Manchester, we have been working to mitigate the impact on our members’ jobs and ensure their interests are protected.
“We welcome the focus in the ENO’s plans on further developing technical roles and skills, which are central to the success of opera in this country.
“While we hope today’s announcement will provide some certainty and clarity for staff, we will continue to work with the ENO to address a number of remaining concerns, including whether technical staff based in London will be required to go to Manchester and maintaining appropriate staffing levels at the London venue.
“The ENO is a nationally significant institution and it’s important that it is set up well for future success, both for its immense cultural contribution and to protect the livelihoods of its staff and freelancers. We will continue to support our members as the ENO’s partnership with Greater Manchester develops, and it continues its annual seasons at the London Coliseum.”
