Want to get active in Bectu? Find the right person to contact

Unions operate through branches based in your workplace.

If you’d like to get more involved, your branch is the best place to start.

If you are in a workplace without a branch, you and your colleagues can set one up

Find out which branch you are in and who to contact

As each workplace is different, each branch is different. You might be in a branch or a sub-branch (called a “section”).

You can find out what branch or section you are in by logging in to the Bectu Knowledge Hub website.

You will also see contact details if they’re available for your branch officers. The best person to contact is usually your branch or section “Chair” or “Secretary” (sometimes known as “lead rep”) – these are usually Bectu members who work in your workplace, but might be a Bectu full-time officer if no members are available.

If you’re still not sure who to contact, send us your details and we’ll put you in touch with the right people.

Regional and non-organised branches

If there aren’t very many union members in your workplace, you will probably be in a “Regional” branch or one of Bectu’s multi-employer branches.

If this is you, especially if you would like to get involved in growing membership in your workplace, the best way to get involved is by filling in this form.

If you’re interested in getting active in your union? Perhaps you’d like to support your branch by recruiting members and maybe even standing as a rep but you’re unsure how to begin?

Our new Get Active Webinar will provide you with additional resources, introduce further training opportunities, get you involved in a focussed group activity and provide all the information you need to take the next step.

What will I learn on the webinar?

The National Organising Unit (NOU) delivers an interactive 60-minute webinar for members interested in getting more active and haven’t yet done rep training.

It’s a chance to speak about work you’re already doing, ask questions, pick up some basic organising techniques and learn about the different types of training Prospect offers.

The sessions run 12-1pm last Thursday of the month.

Following the webinar, members who would like to remain active but don’t want to commit to taking a rep role can attend the ‘Building Power at Work’ course.  Members wishing to become reps, can start with Reps 1.
