Thursday 13 July – update

Ending Prospect’s national Civil Service and public services dispute

Following feedback from members and consideration by our Public Services Sector Executive Committee, Prospect has written to the Minister for the Cabinet Office announcing the end of nationally coordinated industrial action.

This follows receipt of an improved offer from government in response to the national industrial action undertaken by Prospect’s public services branches since Wednesday 15th March.

This government offer includes:

  • a £1,500 lump sum payment for 2022/23,
  • no changes to the Civil Service Compensation Scheme before 2025,
  • a reiterated commitment to avoid compulsory redundancies.

Branch Presidents and Secretaries are being asked to review their positions with a recommendation that the industrial action, including action short of a strike, is ended. There are some areas where issues related to the implementation of the £1,500 payment remain and others where there are outstanding pay flexibility cases. In those circumstances action will be reviewed and may continue.

The industrial action by Public Service Sector members has been the largest action undertaken by Prospect members in more than a decade.

Prospect general secretary, Mike Clancy, has thanked members for their “determination and fortitude”. He says, “Without your commitment and resolve, this result would not have been secured.”

Prospect’s work to protect and rebuild our public services will continue and branches will convene in the autumn
