We cannot continue to ignore this huge group of people who need government support now

Philippa Childs, Head of Bectu, responding to the Treasury Select Committee’s report on gaps in the corona virus support scheme, said:

“Today’s Treasury Select Committee report is yet more evidence that far too many people, particularly in the creative industries, are falling through the cracks in the government’s COVID support schemes.

“The DCMS Select Committee found likewise but action has still not been taken. As the report makes clear, Bectu has provided the Treasury with workable solutions to this problem so it looks increasingly like the failure to act is a choice rather than a problem which hasn’t been solved.

“We cannot continue to ignore this huge group of people who need government support now.”
