Prospect Cymru leading the conversation ahead of Senedd election

23 June 2026

In the lead-up to the 2026 Senedd election, Prospect Cymru was at the forefront of campaigning, engagement and advocacy—making sure members’ voices are heard across Wales.

From influencing political debate to connecting directly with members in workplaces and communities, the Wales team has been working hard to build a stronger, more visible union.

Putting members at the centre

At the heart of the campaign were Prospect’s member-led policy priorities, developed through the All Wales Forum and shared directly with political parties.

These priorities formed the basis of conversations with decision-makers and helped ensure that the issues affecting Prospect members—from jobs and investment to workers’ rights—were firmly on the political agenda.

The campaign brought members together through a wide range of events and activities.

A standout moment was the policy launch event at National Museum Wales, which brought together union leaders, workplace representatives and members for an open discussion about the future of work in Wales. Prospect’s General Secretary Mike Clancy visited Cardiff to speak to members about their work, what they wanted from the Senedd elections, and about their ambitions for Wales. As part of the visit, Mike also saw the incredible work of Prospect members at the museum, including heritage conservation, archaeology, artistic restoration and much more.

He then took part in a panel event alongside Prospect Assistant Secretary Jane Lancastle, Prospect President Ele Wade, and speakers from Welsh Government and the National Museum. The panel discussed the Employment Rights Act and the upcoming Senedd elections, followed by questions from Welsh members in the audience.

Alongside this, online events and briefings ensured members could stay informed and get involved wherever they were based.

Standing up for workers’ values

Prospect Cymru also worked closely with TUC Cymru to tackle some of the biggest challenges facing workers.

We held Resilience Against Hate – Recognising and Responding to FarRight Narratives

Workshops held across Wales, reps and members came together to:

  • Build confidence in having difficult workplace conversations
  • Challenge division and misinformation
  • Strengthen the role of unions in promoting fairness and equality

We understand that more of our reps are facing difficult conversations about the far right in their workplaces. We wanted to ensure our reps and members felt confident and well-prepared to respond. This remains a priority for us, and we are still firmly committed to providing that support.

Reaching new audiences

The campaign embraced new ways of engaging members, including:

  • Bilingual communications
  • Social media campaigns
  • A growing online presence across multiple platforms

Hundreds of members engaged with campaign emails, with many going on to take part in wider TUC Cymru activity.

Building for the future

Prospect Cymru also played a key role in shaping the wider trade union movement’s approach to the election, working collaboratively with other unions to identify priority areas and strengthen collective influence.

The Senedd election campaign showed what can be achieved when members come together with a shared purpose.

From influencing political debate to supporting members in their workplaces, Prospect Cymru is continuing to build a stronger, more visible union—one that continues to stand up for workers across Wales.
