Ministers must act to support theatre industry and jobs

Head of Bectu Philippa Childs, responds to COVID-related cancellations of a number of West End shows and live events:

“Ministers must act now to help ensure the public health crisis does not turn into an economic crisis for theatres and live events.

“The Omicron variant and audience anxiety is already hitting the sector creating further uncertainty with showing being cancelled or paused.

“We need leadership to help safeguard the industry and protect jobs through this latest phase of the crisis. Government cannot leave business and workers to fend for themselves.”
