Freelancers’ Fair: Friday 21 June, central London

19 June 2019

Freelancers in film and TV are gearing up for a great industry day out, organised by BECTU, this coming Friday 21 June in London.

We have exclusive use of a wonderful venue, the Royal Institution (off Piccadilly, nearest tube station, Green Park, doors open 9am); and the programme is bursting with guest speakers, promising essential industry insights and assistance in a number of key areas.

Industry support

Since tickets were released last month (BECTU members attend for free; non-members pay £13.31) we have continued to add to the programme and have confirmed a number of high profile contributors from BAFTA, the BBC, Doc Society, Drone Training, EastEnders Sustainability Team, Film & Television Charity, FreeAgent, Indie Training Fund, ITV, London Community Video Archive, London Film School, NFTS, Planet Placement, Raindance, The TV Collective and the Unit List.

Those taking part will also hear from a number of experienced freelancers who are working to improve and develop the industry in a variety of ways, whether it be through pressing the sector to be more equal, sharing their experience of drone technology, overcoming barriers to production and distribution or delivering insights into how to create using the mobile phone.

Jane Perry, event organiser, commented:

“The Freelancers’ Fair is for you whether you’re an established film-maker or a new arrival. Join us to celebrate the sector, to discuss the challenges workers face and to secure help and assistance from a variety of sources, including BECTU.

“We’re in for a great day and we’re grateful to everyone who is contributing to the programme. Don’t miss out. Be there if you can.

“And as we make our final preparations, I also want to pay tribute to members of BECTU’s Writers Producers and Directors branch who have worked together over many months to devise this year’s programme and to bring it to life.”

Seminars

Take your pick of nine seminars covering commissioning, new ways to make and distribute films, shooting with drones, deciding on the best training and funding it, getting to grips with Making Tax Digital, production using mobile, climate change savvy production, avoiding exploitation when producing for online and how to succeed in an unequal industry.

Exhibition & technical area

Visitors also benefit from a lively event exhibition, too, where help is at hand in a variety of areas from over 20 organisations including from our exhibiting sponsors FreeAgent, Hencilla Canworth, PG Mutual and Thompsons Solicitors. Thanks are due too to co-sponsor Pinewood Studios. We’re also delighted to welcome again ARRI, leading equipment suppliers, who’ll be providing the popular technical area.

And if you can stay till the end of the day, join fellow visitors for a drink to seal a successful, inspirational event.
