Bectu’s Broken Turnaround campaign week begins with walk of action
Bectu held a walk of action today, in London and Media City, calling for the industry to get round the table to end long hours culture in UK film and TV as part of the Broken Turnaround campaign.
Bectu National Secretary Spencer Macdonald said:
“It’s no secret that many, many film and TV workers are regularly asked or feel they have little choice to work dangerously long hours without adequate rest breaks.
“But what many in the industry are still refusing to acknowledge and act on is the hugely detrimental impact this has on workers – on their family time and social lives, their physical health and safety, and their mental wellbeing. These long working hours can also damage the quality of productions, and drive skilled workers out of the sector.
“Bectu has been clear that the industry must do more to enforce safe working hours and proper rest periods. While we had some positive early engagement and warm words, the commitment to action now seems to have dried up.
“That’s why we’re bringing film and TV workers together to take a stand and say: enough is enough. You shouldn’t have to forgo your wellbeing, your safety and your personal life just to keep a job in this industry.”
