Bectu responds to sale of ITV’s media and entertainment divisions to Sky

Sky has announced the takeover of ITV’s media and entertainment divisions including broadcast channels and ITVX streaming service pending approval from the regulator.

Philippa Childs, head of Bectu said:

“If approved, this takeover has big implications for the future of the ITV workforce and for public sector broadcasting more generally, it is right that the regulators thoroughly examine this proposal and make the right decision for the long-term future of ITV.

“We welcome the fact that Sky are already engaging with unions at ITV, and we will be clear that there must be assurances that there will not be cuts to jobs or terms and conditions as a result of this takeover.

“ITV staff must have a say in this process through their unions, and I would urge any concerned staff to join their union and make their voice heard.”
