Bectu responds to Government’s newly constituted Creative Industries Council

16 December 2025

Responding to the Government’s announcement of a relaunch of the Creative Industries Council as part of it’s Industrial Strategy, Head of Bectu Philippa Childs said: “It is deeply disappointing that the newly constituted Creative Industries Council contains 47 members but no trade union representation.

“The Council has a working group on the creative workforce, purporting to ‘build a resilient workforce fit for the future’. It’s unacceptable that this group will be conducted without the input of anyone speaking on behalf of that workforce.

“The workforce is also still waiting for the promised Freelance Champion, which was to be announced this year. We are seriously concerned about the absence of a voice for creative workers in key government decisions, and the Government must urgently address both these issues.”
