Bectu responds to Government announcement of new Pensions Commission

Head of Bectu Philippa Childs, reacting to The Department for Work and Pensions (DWP) announcement of The Pensions Commission, said:

“The UK’s pension system is riddled with cracks and too often we see creative freelancers falling through them and missing out on vital pension security.

“This freelance workforce, whether technically self-employed or not, are the backbone of the creative industries but are facing an insecure future with low savings and no safety net.

“This review must result in real solutions for freelancers, making it easier to save in a way that fits with their work and ensuring they have the same tax advantages as employees. It is vital that the freelance champion is appointed as soon as possible so they can ensure the voice of freelancers is heard in this process.”
