Bectu condemns racist social media abuse of Arts Council of Wales’ Agent for Change officer

21 April 2021

Bectu is disgusted by recent racist tweets targeted at the Arts Council of Wales’ new Agent for Change officer Andrew Ogun.

Head of Bectu, Philippa Childs said:

“Racism is completely unacceptable, and there is something particularly insidious about people hiding behind social media accounts to make disgusting comments.

“Bectu is proud to work with Arts Council Wales, the Wales TUC and other unions on tackling racism in workplaces and in society and we will continue to do so.

“For some time, we have been encouraging employers to work with unions in recognised workplaces to provide paid facility time for equality reps and to encourage freelance equality reps in the sector. Bectu officials in Wales will be reiterating this in a meeting with Welsh Government officials today.”
