Vote YES to recognise Prospect at Nokia UK

Last updated: 29 Jul 2026

Who is Prospect?

Prospect is an independent trade union representing more than 162,000 members across a wide range of industries, including over 16,000 people working in telecoms and technology. We are politically independent and our work is driven by our members.

Prospect already represents employees at organisations including BT, VMO2, O2 Business, Airwave, Ericsson and IBM, giving us extensive experience negotiating on behalf of people working in the telecoms and technology sector.

What is the recognition ballot?

The recognition ballot is your opportunity to decide whether Prospect should be formally recognised by Nokia UK for collective bargaining.

If staff vote YES, Prospect will have the legal right to negotiate with Nokia on behalf of employees over key terms and conditions of employment, including pay. Your elected Prospect representatives, who are Nokia colleagues, will gather members’ views, work with Prospect’s research and legal experts during negotiations and any negotiated agreement will be put to a ballot of Prospect members.

When is the ballot?

The recognition ballot will start on the 14 September. Your ballot paper will be delivered to your home address and you’ll need to return it in the envelope provided.

Why vote YES?

Many Nokia employees across Europe already benefit from trade union recognition, with unions negotiating pay and employment terms on their behalf. UK colleagues have highlighted the advantages these arrangements provide and want the same opportunity to have an independent union negotiate with Nokia.

Voting YES means:

  • Giving employees a stronger voice on pay and conditions.
  • Enabling Prospect to negotiate with Nokia on your behalf.
  • Ensuring your views are represented by elected Nokia colleagues, supported by Prospect’s experienced negotiators, researchers and legal experts.
  • Building a constructive relationship between staff and Nokia that supports both employees and a successful future for the company.

As one Nokia UK Prospect member put it:

“I’m fed up with Nokia’s lack of transparency and fairness on pay. I want to see staff in the UK have the same rights as colleagues in Europe to have an independent trade union negotiate our pay award and I’m voting for trade union recognition.”
