Race to be Heard Survey Privacy Notice

This privacy notice sets out how we will use your personal data when you take part in research into racism in the media industry by completing our survey. 

Data Controller

For the purposes of this research Prospect and the Sir Lenny Henry Centre for Media Diversity are joint controllers of the data.

The purpose of processing

Information provided in the survey will be used to research and analyse the issue of racism in the media industry with a view to improving policy and best practice.

Lawful basis for processing

We are processing this information based on our legitimate interest which is to meet the union objective to promote equal opportunities for workers in the media industry.

Special category data

As part of the survey we will also collect special category data, which will be processed based on our legitimate interest, and our legitimate activities as a trade union.  The processing is also necessary for research purposes. Prospect has an appropriate policy document in place.

What we do with the data

If you provide your name and email address, we may use this to contact you about your response to the survey.

Your response may used when the results of the survey are published, but these will not contain any personal data.

We may want to publish your comments on our website and social media accounts.  These will not contain any personal data, but where we are considering doing this, we will make it clear what we plan to publish and will seek your permission before doing so.

Data Sharing

As this is a joint project with the Sir Lenny Henry Centre for Media Diversity, responses to the survey will be shared with them.

International Transfers

The survey will be processed by Survey Monkey [link to survey monkey privacy notice]

Data collected by Survey Monkey will be transferred to and stored in the US or Ireland.

 How long do we keep this information?

We will retain the survey information until our work on the subject matter of the research is complete.

What are your rights?

You have the right to request access to your personal data.

The right to correct inaccurate data.

The right to the erasure of personal data in certain circumstances

The right to restrict the use of your personal data.

The right to object to the use of your personal data.

The right to complain to the ICO if you are unhappy with the way we have processed your personal data.
