Introduction to Adobe Premiere

Course description

This one-day course is an introduction to editing on Adobe Premiere. It is suited to those with limited editing experience. We will cover editing, transition, text, audio and encoding to a basic operational level. This is practical course where you will have hands-on experience of cutting small video packages (documentary/film etc). We will also discuss issues around formats and codecs.

By the end of the day you should be able to:

  • import footage/stills/audio
  • choose in and out points
  • create a timeline and change timeline settings
  • create a cut
  • add text
  • complete basic sound mix
  • understand how to rescue lost files and back up work
  • understand naming conventions
  • have a basic understanding of formats, resolutions and codecs
  • export your work using various file formats.

Note: The course will be run using MAC computers. Although the software is the same the keyboard functionality, mouse and operating system are different to those on a Windows-based computer.

Richard Hughes

Richard has more than 15 years’ experience in broadcast and post-production and a wide range of skills including offline/online, editing, grading, sound mixing and compositing. He currently works freelance in documentary production and has been training at Bectu for more than 10 years.

Credits include BBC, Five, Discovery. He has an MA in Interactive Digital Media and is experienced in a variety of formats and platforms.

Cancellation policy

We appreciate that when circumstances change you may no longer be able to attend a training course you have already booked and paid for.

While we will always try our best to accommodate any alterations to your plans, we have a standard cancellation policy which is:

Individual bookings

  • If you notify us by phone or email at least seven full days before the scheduled course date, you will not be charged and will be refunded in full any course fees you have paid.
  • Cancellations that are less than seven full days before the course date will be charged at 50% of the total course fee, with 50% refunded. This is unless you can demonstrate extenuating circumstances.
  • If you do not attend the course and/or fail to notify us in advance, you will be charged the full course fee.
  • If you notify us by phone or email up to three days in advance of the course that you can no longer make the booked training, we can transfer you once to another course scheduled within the calendar year.
  • We are unable to reimburse any non-transferable travel or accommodation expenses that may arise from a course being rescheduled or cancelled.

Bulk bookings (two or more tickets booked)

  • If you notify us by phone or email at least 14 full days before the scheduled course date, you will not be charged and will be refunded in full any course fees you have paid.
  • For any cancellation you make that is less than 14 full days before the course date, you will be charged 50% of the total course fee, with 50% refunded ­­­­- unless you can demonstrate extenuating circumstances.
  • If you do not attend the course and/or fail to notify us in advance you will be charged the full course fee.
  • If you notify us by phone or email seven days in advance of the course that you can no longer make the booked training, we can transfer you once to another course scheduled within the calendar year.
  • We are unable to reimburse any non-transferable travel or accommodation expenses that may arise from a course being rescheduled or cancelled.

Bectu reserves the right to cancel courses without liability. However, where possible, delegates will be offered an alternative date or a full refund.
