Is the government going to suspend automatic enrolment?

Last updated: 25 Nov 2020

We have been asked if the government will likely take further action to reduce employer costs by suspending automatic enrolment.

We are currently in a fast-moving and changing situation however the Government has decided that the CJRS is the best way to support businesses and employees, with the intention to minimise how much this negatively impacts on individuals’ financial future.

This means that employee and employer pension contributions will continue to be deducted in line with the automatic enrolment legislation.

Is the government going to reduce automatic enrolment contributions made by individuals?

There are no plans to suspend automatic enrolment requirements and reduce the amount that individuals pay into their pension. The option for a person to opt-out or cease saving still remains if that is right for them during this difficult period.
