Can I work for my employer while I am on furlough?

Last updated: 25 Nov 2020

No, during periods when you are designated as being on furlough you must not do any work for your employer.

You can, however, undertake training, do volunteer work, and if you are a union representative or a pensions trustee, you can continue to perform your duties.

The scheme doesn’t prevent you working for another employer while furloughed, but your employment contract may prohibit this – check your contract and talk to your union representative if you have concerns.
